(JEFFERSON CO, COLO) - On Friday, December 5, 2025, an off-duty Denver Police Officer, Christopher Thomas, was booked into Jefferson County Jail for possible charges including felony eluding and reckless endangerment.

On October 24, 2025, at approximately 11:27 p.m., a Colorado State Trooper was parked on the right shoulder of eastbound Highway 58 near milepost 4, in Jefferson County, Colorado. The trooper observed a white Dodge Ram pickup traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. The trooper locked in the speed at 102 miles per hour in a posted 65 miles per hour zone. The Trooper caught up to the vehicle on eastbound Interstate 70, just west of Kipling Street, and attempted to stop it. The vehicle was traveling east at approximately 90 miles per hour in a posted 65 miles per hour zone. The Trooper got behind the vehicle, and the vehicle accelerated aggressively.

The Trooper initiated a short pursuit, but speeds exceeded 100 miles per hour, and due to moderate traffic on Interstate 70, the Trooper discontinued the pursuit. The Trooper recovered part of the license plate, which was registered to Christopher Thomas.

The Troopers headed to the registered address of the vehicle and observed the same truck turn south on Harlan Street. The truck immediately accelerated when the driver saw the troopers. Troopers did not pursue Thomas and continued with the investigation.

Colorado State Patrol Troopers, in cooperation with the Denver Police Department, gathered evidence and obtained an arrest warrant.

Arrests and charges are merely accusations until and unless a suspect is convicted of a crime. All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
