Two Vehicle Fatal Crash East of Kiowa
Highway 86 is closed to all traffic
(Elbert, CO) - Earlier this morning at 6:36 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 86 mile marker 30, approximately seven miles east of Kiowa.
A 1993 Dodge pickup was going westbound when it went off the road onto the right shoulder. It re-entered the roadway and traveled into the eastbound lane, where it struck the driver's side of a 2022 Ford SUV traveling eastbound. All lanes of Highway 86 are shut down.
The driver of the Dodge, a 45-year-old male, died on scene. The driver of the Ford was taken to a hospital in Parker with serious injuries.
The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit will handle the investigation. Highway 86 is currently closed and will remain shut down for approximately two hours for clean-up and investigation. To check on the current roadway status, visit cotrip.org.
