Wanted Fugitive Arrested in La Junta Following Short Pursuit
April 7, 2026 – CBI – La Junta, CO –The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the La Junta Police Department (LJPD) announce the arrest of wanted fugitive, Anthony Burquez, today at approximately 4:30 p.m. in La Junta, Colorado. Burquez (DOB 05/26/1987), who was sought in connection with outstanding parole warrants, was taken into custody without incident at a residence in the 400 Block of Hayes Avenue.
The arrest followed a short vehicle pursuit initiated after La Junta Police officers spotted the 38-year old suspect. Burquez subsequently entered a residence, and all assisting agencies established a perimeter. Burquez surrendered to law enforcement and was taken into custody. It appears he had access to the house, and no other individuals were inside the residence at the time of the arrest. Burquez was not armed when taken into custody.
At the time of his arrest, Burquez had the following outstanding felony warrants:

Felony warrant for Possession of Weapon by Previous Offender out of Otero County.

Felony warrant for Parole Violation out of the Department of Corrections.
This operation was a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies.
