Poitrey Canyon Fire Update: 2,065 Acres Burned, Containment Still at 0%
April 26, 2026 – 8:00 AM Update
Fire officials report that the Poitrey Canyon Fire has grown to 2,065 acres and remains 0% contained, as crews continue aggressive suppression efforts on multiple fronts.

The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) officially assumed management of the fire at 8:00 PM last night, marking a transition to a more coordinated statewide response.
Fire Activity and Response Efforts
A late aerial mapping flight conducted by the DFPC Multi Mission Aircraft (MMA) confirmed the fire’s current perimeter. Ground crews are working alongside significant aerial support, including:
- Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs)
- Large Air Tankers (LATs)
- Helicopters
These air resources have been critical in helping firefighters secure containment lines along the fire’s flanks, slowing its spread.
Weather Conditions and Fire Behavior
Cooler weather conditions yesterday helped moderate fire behavior slightly, providing crews with a window to strengthen control lines. However, officials warn that:
- The fire remains uncontained (0%)
- Scattered heat pockets persist throughout the fire area
- Conditions can still change rapidly
Additional Resources Incoming
To bolster ongoing efforts, additional firefighting resources have been ordered and are currently en route. Crews are preparing for continued operations as they work to contain the blaze and protect nearby areas.
