**Update** Crash at Highway 74 and Lair 'O the Bear
(Jefferson County, COLO) - The ongoing investigation shows a Mini Cooper was driving west on Highway 74 near milepost 13. The Mini Cooper went off the right shoulder of the roadway, striking an upward embankment. It re-entered the roadway, rotated, and rolled down an embankment off the left side of the road. The Mini Cooper came to rest on its wheels, where it caught on fire.
While it was initially believed that the driver, a 66-year-old male from Evergreen, was ejected during the crash, the investigation has since determined that the driver was removed from the Mini Cooper by passerbys who also performed CPR on him. He was transported to an area hospital for serious injuries.
The crash is being investigated by the Colorado State Patrol. (Jefferson County, Colo) – Today, May 11, 2026, at approximately 4:13 p.m., Colorado State Patrol troopers responded to a serious injury crash on Highway 74, milepost 13, near Lair 'O The Bear, west of Idledale.
Initial reports show that a single vehicle, a Mini Cooper, was traveling near Highway 74 and the entrance to Lair 'O The Bear. The vehicle crashed and rolled, ejecting the 66-year-old male driver. The driver was transported to an area hospital for his injuries.
