WALSENBURG, Colo. — A minor earthquake shook southern Colorado early Sunday morning, with the U.S. Geological Survey reporting a 3.0 magnitude tremor near Walsenburg.

According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at approximately 5:29 a.m. local time and was centered about 4 kilometers southwest of Walsenburg. The quake was recorded at a depth of nearly 5.9 kilometers.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage following the quake. Residents in parts of Huerfano County and surrounding communities reported feeling light shaking, though the earthquake was considered relatively minor by seismic standards.

Colorado experiences occasional earthquakes, particularly in the southern part of the state near the Colorado-New Mexico border. While most are small and cause little to no damage, the USGS continues to monitor seismic activity throughout the region.

The USGS encourages residents who felt the quake to submit reports through its “Did You Feel It?” program, which helps scientists track shaking intensity and community impacts.
