Pueblo Man Arrested After Alleged Shotgun Shooting, Police Pursuit and Foot Chase Following West Side Assault


Description: Pueblo police arrested 33-year-old Gilbert Ballejos after an alleged shotgun shooting injured a man on W. 11th Street. Officers pursued the suspect vehicle, recovered a shotgun, and charged Ballejos with first-degree assault, robbery, weapon possession by a previous offender, and vehicular eluding.

SHOOTING

On Friday June 12, 2026, at approximately 12:36 p.m. Pueblo Police officers were dispatched to the 900 block of W. 11th Street on a report of a shooting.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted the victim who was limping around with a gunshot wound to his left heel. According to the victim, a male came up to him with a shotgun accusing him of stealing a cell phone the victim had found. The victim said the male suspect shot him, got into a silver vehicle and fled the area northbound on Conley.

Officers and Non-Fatal Shoot Team Detectives reviewed area surveillance and developed a suspect. The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Gilbert Ballejos who had a listed address on the west side of Pueblo.

Officers responded to Ballejos’ address and observed the suspect vehicle in the driveway. The suspect vehicle backed out of the driveway and fled northbound on Cheyenne. Officers pursued the vehicle and were able to render it disabled by performing a pursuit intervention tactic (P.I.T). Ballejos fled from the vehicle and hid in the 1900 block of West 19th Street.

Officers established a perimeter, deployed drones and made announcements for Ballejos to come out. Ballejos ran from a yard and was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. The suspect vehicle was secured with a shotgun visible in the vehicle.

The victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Ballejos was charged with 1st Degree Assault, Robbery, POWPO-Possession of Weapon by Previous Offender, and Vehicular Eluding.

All parties considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
