Aspen Acres Daily Fire Update for June 30, 2026

Colorado Incident Management Team
Phil Daniels, Incident Commander

Size: 22,827 acres | Containment: 0% | Total Personnel: approximately 75

Location: 10 Miles NW of Rye, CO in Custer and Pueblo Counties

Reported: June 29, 2026, at 6:00 a.m.

Special Notes: The Colorado Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed management of the fire yesterday. The Team is working closely with local, regional and national resources that remained actively engaged in suppression efforts yesterday and throughout the night. Team Colorado’s highest priority is the safety of the public and the fire personnel.
Yesterday, Governor Jared Polis verbally declared a disaster emergency. This verbal declaration activates the State Emergency Operations Plan and directs the Department of Public Safety and its Divisions of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) and Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) to take all necessary and appropriate actions to assist with response, recovery, and mitigation efforts. This support includes engine and hand crews to assist in containment efforts, DFPC aerial resources, and the DFPC-sponsored Type 3 Incident Management Team to manage incident response efforts.

Current Situation: The fire made an eight-mile run off of the timber in the foothills and is burning through extremely dry grass and brush, running east. Additional resources have been ordered and are enroute.

Weather: A RED FLAG WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 10 PM MDT TUESDAY. Critical fire weather is expected to continue, with temperatures in the 80s. Winds are south to southwest 6-12 mph until 9:00 a.m., then south 17-21 mph. Gusts out of the southwest in the 40-45 mph range will prevail into the afternoon and evening, and humidity values are as low as 11%.

Fire Behavior: Fire activity will increase quickly as the upslope winds begin. Terrain-driven crown runs are likely in areas where the wind and slope align. Extreme fire behavior is likely as the day heats up and the winds increase. Short-range spotting is likely in areas where the fire moved downslope last night and the backing fire became a head fire with the southeast and slope winds.

Fire Restrictions: Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in effect in Custer and Pueblo Counties, Colorado. No open fires are allowed.
