6/29/26: The City of Pueblo Fire is bussing people from Rye to the Evacuation Center in Pueblo (1650 Cooper Place) especially for the elderly and disabled.

Disaster Assistance Center (D.A.C)

A Disaster Assistance Center is open at the Pueblo Academy of Arts (formerly Pitts Middle School), 29 Lehigh Ave, Pueblo, CO 81005, for Pueblo County and Custer County residents who have been evacuated or impacted by the Aspen Acres Fire.

The Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) is a one-stop resource center set up to assist survivors with the recovery process. Among the services that will be available at the center include victims' assistance, United Way of Southern Colorado, food, Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment, behavioral health, the Department of Human Services, Red Cross, agriculture support and private insurance.

Individuals will be required to have proof of residency to enter the DAC, which can include photo ID with address, a piece of mail or other official document with address.

The entrance to the DAC will be on the east side of the school, enter from the parking lot off of Colgate Lane.

Fire Restrictions:

1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire. This includes charcoal grills and barbecues, coal, and wood burning stoves and sheepherder's stoves and includes use in developed camping and picnic grounds. EXCEPT: Devices using pressurized liquid or grasses, grills or lanterns that include shut-off valves are permitted when used in an area at least three feet or more from flammable material such as grass or pine needles.

2. Smoking. EXCEPT: Within an enclosed vehicle, trailer, or building.

3. The sale or use of fireworks.

4. Welding or operating acetylene or other torch with an open flame.

5. Operating or using any internal combustion engine (e.g. chainsaw, generator, ATV) without a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained and in effective working order.

6. Operating a chainsaw without an approved spark arresting device as described in Prohibition #4, a chemical pressurized fire extinguisher (8 oz. capacity by weight or larger and kept with the operator) and a round point shovel with an overall length of at least 35 inches readily available for use.

7. Using an explosive. This includes, but is not limited to, fuses or blasting caps, fireworks, rockets, exploding targets, tracers or incendiary.

8. Possessing or using a motor vehicle off established roads, motorized trails or established parking areas, except when parking in an area devoid of vegetation within 10 feet of the vehicle.

Notification Process

The notification process of resident properties in the affected areas has begun at the Disaster Assistance Center at the Pueblo Academy of Arts (formerly known as Pitts Middle School).

Many structures have been lost as of 3:00 PM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Those involved in the investigation for the Aspen Acres Fire are currently working on damage assessment, but this is not the time for speculation about structures or addresses that have been affected.

The investigation teams must safely enter the locations to assess and accurately track the addresses affected by the Aspen Acres Fire. Pueblo County Sheriff’s Deputies, victim advocates and command staff will personally contact individuals and owners of properties before information is publicly disseminated.
