Obituary

Flora M. Romero, 94, of La Junta, Colorado, passed away on July 3, 2026, at her La Junta home. She was born on July 3, 2026, in Trinchera, Colorado to Fidel & Eustacia (Cruz) Madrid. Flora moved to La Junta as a toddler with her numerous siblings. Flora married John Romero; he preceded her death on September 2, 2017.

Flora was known to be a hard worker; she worked several jobs throughout her life, including being a Harvey House Girl but was most known for being a Labeler at Dean Pickle Plant. On her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo, going to casinos and loved to go out dancing with John. Most of all, Flora loved spending time with her family.

Flora is survived by her children, Cruz Andrew Martinez of Las Animas, CO; Vickie (Larry) Aragon of La Junta, CO; Bennie “Chupe” (Maryann) Martinez of La Junta, CO; Catherine Martinez of La Junta, CO; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great–grandchildren, nieces and nephews; siblings, Sonny Madrid of Pueblo, CO & Florencio “Junior” Madrid, Jr. of Rocky Ford, CO. Flora was loved by all and had many dear friends and acquaintances who also survive. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Romero; son, Larry Martinez, parents, Fidel & Eustacia Madrid and numerous siblings including Baby Martinez.

Graveside service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvery Cemetery in La Junta, with Father Denis Mary Dugan of Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish Church officiating.
