Stolen Church Bus Recovered in Cañon City; Suspect Arrested

On July 7, 2026, deputies with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office received a report of a stolen school bus-style vehicle in the Penrose area. The bus had been reported stolen from a church in Colorado Springs the previous day.

Deputies responded to the area but were initially unable to locate the vehicle. A short time later, an off-duty Fremont County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant spotted the bus in Canon City. Deputies responded and located the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot.
 
The bus was recovered and returned to its owner. The suspect, Daniel Walton, was arrested and booked on the following charges:
 
2nd Degree Motor Vehicle Theft
1st Degree Motor Vehicle Trespass
